El presidente de Uruguay, José Mujica, dijo el viernes que pidió a Estados Unidos la liberación de prisioneros cubanos como un gesto tras acceder a recibir en su país a reclusos de la cárcel de la base naval de Guantánamo, un recinto que la administración de Barack Obama ha prometido cerrar.
Mujica dijo recientemente que estaba dispuesto a dar refugio a algunos de los prisioneros de la polémica cárcel, pero hasta ahora no se había conocido si había pedido algo a cambio, reporta Reuters
No tenemos empacho en decir que le pedimos por favor al Gobierno norteamericano que haga lo posible porque esos tres prisioneros cubanos, que hace muchos años que están allí, se busque la manera de liberarlos, porque también eso es una vergüenza”, dijo en su audición radial “Habla el presidente”.
Se trata de Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, y Ramón Labañino que aún permanecen prisioneros injustamente en los Estados Unidos, pues de los cinco antiterroristas, René González y Fernando González se encuentran en Cuba tras cumplir sus largas condenas por monitorear acciones contra su país de grupos violentos radicados en Miami.
El mandatario uruguayo, un ex guerrillero de 78 años que vivió en la clandestinidad y estuvo preso más de una década, dijo que aún falta para la llegada de los prisioneros de Guantánamo a su país.
“Estamos lejos de que esto se concrete (la llegada de los prisioneros), pero en todo caso serán hombres libres en nuestra realidad”, agregó según Reuters.
Añadió que Estados Unidos está negociando con 18 países para el traslado de prisioneros.
El mandatario calificó además como una “vergüenza humana” la situación de la cárcel de Guantánamo, una base naval que tiene 155 prisioneros considerados una amenaza para Estados Unidos por sus vinculaciones terroristas.
“No nos podemos hacer los distraídos ante la formidable tragedia de gente que lleva 12, 13 años sin comunicación con el mundo y detenida sin causa probada ni haber visto un fiscal, un juez, sin ningún tipo de garantía”, expresó Mujica según Reuters
